Perhaps that's why, since you're erunning Linux instead of Windows, outright. I can't find the reason why this is happening. Firefox is my default browser, and I've managed to get URL links in Outlook now to open in Firefox but PDF files persist in opening up their links via Firefox.
The people in the links above also ahd the same problem and no solution seems to have been found by them, either, but I'll just have to keep looking. I don't know how to safely remove IE from the system since MS, in its greediness, decided to make it part of the underlying operating system, as it were <sigh>.
I'll report back if I find anything, though it doesn't look promising.

woops, sorry, that obviously should read via IE (instead of Firefox, pain in the butt this behaviour with IE!)

Remove Windows from your system? :-) Or just add a Linux partition and install (eg) Ubuntu? Or buy a Mac...
There are nowadays *very* few things you actually need Windows for, unless it's a mandated application or one of the dwindling number of applications for which there is no viable FLOSS equivalent yet.

And there are nowadays *very* few excuses for offering "start over and do everything my way" as a solution to an honest question.
