modem question and modem string wanted Is it ok to have an isa modem and pci modem installed at the same time? I have a dual boot system. 98se and xp. 98se and puppy Linux live cd does recognize my ISA modem (cl-md56xx cirrus logic) Windows xp does not. ACPI in 98se. Is it worth it ?

After running 98se on an old VIA MVP3 system for 10 years, and it never being particularly stable, I turned off ACPI in the BIOS, rebooted 98se and it redetected all the hardware. System is running fine, not sure if the underlying problems have been mitigated or not. I never really used any power options... más »

I have just installed W98se in VMWare just for playing original Commandos series. But I couldn't find a way to increase graphics quality since there is no 98 drivers for my graphics card; Ati Radeon 3850. I'm stuck with "Standart PCI Graphics Adaptor" with 640*480 res. & 16 (yes, sixteen) colors.... más »

Hi,, On advice from PCR, I am starting this new thread. About 3 months ago, I got an error msg from my prefered software (jad) saying it could'nt play (playback) the music c/d I put in. Wife's machine: running Win98FE and every reboot comes up with a FLEETING error message that something in the 1st line in CONFIG.SYS is corrupted, or something. Looking at CONF.SYS, which only has one line, in the only line is a reference to C:\CDROM\IDE.SYS and there is no such folder. PC not starting.

My sister has a PC preloaded with Win98SE and has IE6 &OE6. When she powered it ON today there was a continuous whining noise from the processor and it was not booting. The fan is working. What could be the problem and what is the remedy? Thanking you Capt K Ripendran

Hello, sorry but no good news. Basically it means no support and no program updates for this OS, but virus updates till the end of 2010. I got problem, network card does not work anymore. Before this there Kerio personal firewell shown errors when loading windows(cannot find driver). I uninstalled firewall. I realize this may be a difficult question, but does anyone know of a way to change the Windows logo key assignments that are given by default in Windows?
